Come to celebrate our Love for Lions, for the work we do and for our communities at our (better late than never) Valentine’s Day Mixer on Thursday, February 22, at 5:30 pm at First Baptist Church. Hope you can join us.
Spread the word. Invite someone, other than just your spouse, whom you love from among your friends and family. Hope to see you there.
Did you know, February is National Heart Health Month?
The center day of the month is Heart's Day, also known as Valentine's Day. What a good time for Denver Lions to spend some time considering their hearts and practicing keeping them healthy!
At the meeting February 13, in addition to sharing a few stories about the origin of Valentine's Day; Erika and Myrna Ann will lead an exploration of heart health and invite everyone to practice some simple, easy, everyday ways to keep our hearts fit to serve our communities.
We've talked a lot about how to invite people and what to do when you invite people and how to think about it. We've talked about the three minute egg timer so that you spend at least three minutes a week thinking about who you might invite and ask to join our gang: people who like to serve, people who are good company, people who have a heart for helping people. But here's the question of the week: Have you admitted to anybody lately that you're a Lion? Have you admitted it? Come on. Have you told a story about what goes on at a Lion’s function, what goes on at a Lions luncheon? Have you talked about the golf tournament? Have you invited somebody to the golf tournament yet? Have you told them about that child who now has glasses and was previously struggling in school? Have you told them about the cornea transplants? Have you talked about any of these things? Because one of the things we do is just share with people what you do in Lions, what you've contributed to and what you've taken part in. They just might be drawn to our club. They might ask you if they can come with you. So if you're having trouble asking somebody, maybe somebody will ask you if they can join you after you tell a Lions story. Maybe, after sharing a story you won't even have to ask them. This is just a concept you might try. I don't see a lot of guests today, so I think you're not asking enough or not telling enough stories. So maybe you should tell and wait for them to ask you. That's it for today.

Lions can now pay their club dues and donate to the club foundation online through the website at denverlions.org. On the top line of the website are two tabs "Donate" and "Pay Dues" When you click on these tabs it will lead you to a page where you can chose to pay by credit card or if you have one a PayPal account. You do not need a PayPal account to pay online. You can use a credit card. Paying by credit card or PayPal helps the club as it is a lot less administrative effort. If you need assistance in setting contact President Dwight Steen.

The Denver Den has volunteered to be bellringers for the Salvation Army for many, many years and this past holiday season was no different. Lions members rang the bells for four days at the east entrance of the Macy’s in Cherry Creek. This is a very high traffic area during the Christmas rush. We received a lot of nice compliments from people thanking us for volunteering to help the Salvation Army.
The Salvation Army reported that we raised $976 over our three days of bellringing. The Army puts these donations to good use helping both the homeless and families and children that need a hand up.
Thanks go out to all of the following Lions for helping us maintain this Denver Den tradition and very worthy program:
Rod Wicklund Dwight Steen Steve Krebsbach
Chuck Anderson Norma Aguilar-Dave Gabriel Aguilar-Dave
