Lions Summer Picnic
We had a good turnout for the Lions Summer Picnic at the Colorado Railroad Museum.  Nothing like hamburger or hot dog and a beer on a beautiful summer day.  Lion Bill Henderson, who is on the museum board, arranged for special a tour and a private train ride.  The museum is a special place with all the trains and roundhouse.  Special thanks to Bill.
Lions Vision Event at Inner City Health
We had a very successful Lions vision event at Inner City Health.  We gave eye exams and provided glasses from the Lions Recycled for Sight program.  A special thank you to Steve Kinsky and Susy Osorio-Kinsky for leading the organization of the event.

The results of the event on August 20:
  • 420 people attending the event
  • 60 volunteers
  • 260 glasses from Recycled for Sight program
  • 20 people referred for custom glasses
  • 4 people referred for surgeries
Dragon Boat Team Racing
It was an exciting time at the Dragon Boat Races.  We are sure our Denver Lions team did well but we do not really know.  The final races were canceled due to weather.  We had some excitement when a brief squall come up.  The dragon boats are not made for rough water.  But the team paddled like crazy and made it back to the dock with only a little wet.  Some other teams did not make it and went in the lake.  Everyone was safe.  Special thanks to Lion Erika Taylor for being our team captain and getting it all organized.  Click here to see more pictures of the races.
KidSight at Dragon Boar Festival
We had another successful KidSight event at the Dragon Boat Festival.   With the help of other Lions Clubs we were able to screen 294 kids.  We had the help of many Denver area clubs and clubs form the North East district. We had some excitement when a big wind came up and we had all hands trying to hold down the tent.

5 Points Lions Community Day
At the 5 Point Lions Community Day they gave out 425 backpacks with school supplies.  There was a DJ, games, hot dogs and drinks.  The Denver Lions did KidSight screenings for 68 kids. The Balthazar’s from the new Stapleton Lions brought their little horses for the kids to pet.  This was a draw to have kids come to be screened. This is a wonderful event the 5 Point Lions put on each year.
Lions Board Retreat
To start the Lion year we had a Lion Board Sumer Retreat at Savio House.   Twenty five past presidents and current board members spent a Saturday morning exchanging ideas. There was a lot of experience in the room. Denver Den has a 100 year legacy and a number of current successes.  We want to build on these to meet our challenges and opportunities.
Lion Exchange Student
Lion Erika Taylor and Lion Myrna Ann Adkins hosted an exchange student from Mongolia.  Yhapaa was at the Lions Summer Picnic and the Lions Camp.   The Taylor family showed her the sights of Colorado including Pikes Peak, Garden of the Gods, Elitch Gardens, Bronco game and more.  Yhapaa will have a lot of memories as she returns to Mongolia.
