With increased volunteer hours and the introduction of new, faster lensometers to process glasses, COLERC can now accept sorted glasses and metal cases.

SORTING: Clubs should separate glasses and cases into six categories and label each box accordingly (everything else to trash):

  1. Mission Glasses: All prescription glasses are in excellent condition. It is important that the glasses be in excellent condition. We do not want to send less than quality glasses to people in need.  No scratches, scuffs, coatings, lost nose piece, or damaged in any way.  Lions collect a large number of glasses so we can use excellent glasses. Rule of thumb-when in doubt throw it in the ReSpecs box.
  2. Readers: Usually, the strength can be found on the temple/bows. If no number put in the ReSpecs box
  3. Missouri  Brand name (Ray-Ban and Oakley) glasses, cases, and all prescription sunglasses.
  4. Plano Sunglasses (non-prescription sunglasses). If you notice a distortion when looking through one of the lenses, it is a prescription and should go in the Missouri box. All clip-on sunglasses should go in the ReSpecs box
  5. ReSpecs (all broken glasses, glasses with loose temples/bows, missing parts, glasses with glass lenses, all clip-on sunglasses or otherwise not suitable for Missions. ReSpecs does not take bags, cases, or loose lenses.  ReSpecs is a recycler that processes the glasses to be used in other products.
  6. Cases: Only Hard metal cases may be brought to COLERC. Use a magnet to determine is cases are metal. These go to a local metal recycler.  You can also keep and donate to local thrift store, Goodwill or Arc.
