We honored Bob Sweeney, Anita Albrecht, and other Denver Den and Wyoming Lions at the Celebration Dinner. The Rocky Mountain Lions Eye Institute was built primarily with private funding and was constructed simultaneously with the Cancer Center, a state-funded project; both were the anchor projects on the Anschutz Campus of the University of Colorado School of Medicine. Bob Sweeney in his role at the King Foundation and as a Denver Den Lion was critical in bringing the project to fruition.  Anita Albrecht and Gail Phillips put their hearts and souls into the effort. This was a difficult endeavor and probably the greatest achievement of the Denver Den in these first 100 years. Bob Sweeney has done so much for Denver and the state of Colorado as well as the University of Colorado. He should have received a public thank you long ago. The 100th Anniversary of the Denver Den was ideal setting to recognize his contributions.

I very much appreciated the opportunity to publically congratulate and honor them. Amazingly, this was the first public opportunity since the Rocky Mountain Lions Eye Institute was built. Unfortunately, we have lost Don Fullerton, Don Martinson and several others who should have been thanked and honored.

I wish the Denver Den a successful next 100 years.

Best regards,

Bronwyn Bateman
