The Colorado Lions Eyeglass Recycling Center (COLERC) is an MD6 project. Two items will be voted on during the upcoming MD6 state convention.
- Designate COLERC as an MD6 entity.
- Approve the bylaws for COLERC.
Colorado Lions have entities and endorsed projects. Entities include Schuyler Scholarship, Lions Camp, CLF, RMLEB, KidSight, and RMLEIF. The projects are Ensight Skills, Service Dogs, and Leader Dogs. An entity must have bylaws and a board of directors made up of elected Lions, and at a minimum, it must provide an annual report including financials. COLERC meets all these requirements. A project is not required to have any of these.
The US has eleven official LCI Lions Eyeglass Recycling Centers (LERC). Following COVID, not all are fully functional. COLERC is a 501(c)3. The goal of COLERC is to become an official LERC after we have sufficient inventory. COLERC has been built to meet the requirements set by LCI, so we are confident that it will be certified. There has not been a new LERC in many, many years. Being COLERC is new; it will receive national recognition for Colorado Lions.
