While COLERC focuses on providing Rx glasses to organizations running vision campaigns worldwide, there is a side benefit - recycling and avoiding landfill. During the last 12 months:
- Hard cases are collected and sent to a local metal recycler - 2 tons of cases
- Unusable eyeglasses sent to a recycler in California - 9 pallets - 4500 lbs
- Solar Shields eyewear to Aftersight - 550
Over the last 12 months, COLERC volunteers washed, dried, polished, and inspected more than 200,000 glasses. The usable glasses were sent to the lens analyzer to read the Rx
