More than 46 million people—including 16 million children—live in poverty in the United States.

Day of Dignity is an event led by Islamic Relief USA all around the country and it creates an opportunity for caring individuals from diverse communities to provide services to their neighbors in need. Food, clothing, blankets, and hygiene kits are just some of the items distributed during Day of Dignity events. And, often, free medical care, screenings and even barber services are provided. It’s a day to come together and work together for a better world - and that means Lions made sure to be involved! The Denver event was this past Saturday Sept. 24th from 10am to 3pm at the Auraria Campus near the Kenneth King Center.

The Denver Den was represented by Steve and Susy Kinsky and Ned Nagle. Bob Sarget, the ophthalmologist and Rotarian who accompanied us in 2015 to Ecuador also helped out. The team did eye screenings and distributed used eyeglasses. All 41 patients seen were homeless and eyeglasses, readers and in some cases both, were distributed to 36 people. Way to make us proud Denver Den volunteers!
