WHAT ARE DENVER LIONS DOING?
Denver Lions, by way of the Social Services Committee and the Denver Lions Foundation, has been able to get some resources into the community to help people in special need at this incredibly challenging time.
  • We gave $250 to help seniors who were in the need of food and medicine as the pandemic hit and it was difficult to find help.   Two of these seniors are on dialysis and did not have the $10 required for over the counter medicine they needed.
  • $100 each went to 3 single mothers who have lost their jobs and did not have the means to provide enough food and other support for their children..
  • $225 went to a community organization preparing and delivering meals so they could buy grain, vegetables and other staples to distribute to families in need.
  • One woman I was referred to is  herself preparing 15 meals every day to deliver to 15 families who have been quarantined because of the virus.  I offered to help her buy supplies, and at first she said that would be very helpful, and then as we talked about what Lions was endeavoring to do, she said that she had just received her tax refund and she could use that for probably two months to buy supplies and we should give our support to someone who needed it more.  Isn’t it gratifying to hear how so many are stepping up.
  • Worked with a man who had called the office desperate for a place to stay until friends could arrive from Wyoming to help because his car had broken down.  He called with a plea for some work, but we got the $65 per night plus tax for three nights at the Econolodge to provide relief.  He was grateful for our help and will pay back by volunteering with a Lions Club in WY.
A special thanks to Mark who has delivered checks to speed up getting them where needed and made special arrangements for others to get them.
