The Denver Lions Foundation was very active in 2015-16.  A total of $131,514 grants given.   This provided significant impact on our community.  Such as: served 335 people with exams, glasses and surgery.  Our club screened 3,359 kids which is part of the 48,000 kids screened in Colorado.  More details are in the Annual Report.

A significant change in the utilization of the endowment was approved by the foundation and Denver Lions boards for the future. 5% of the endowment will be used for charitable purposes by the foundation board in each year. This policy replaces the vagaries of policy about what to do in years when we had an investment windfall or loss. It enables the board to confidently use a reasonable and budget-able amount in the endowment to serve our community.

In summary the grants the Foundation can provide is 5% of the endowment plus the donations from members.  Donations from members are a key part of the grants we can provide.  During the past two years donations from members plus generous bequest from the estate of Lion Donald Neithercut has allowed our increase in grants.

The Lion Neithercut funds will soon run out and to continue our increased level of grants our members will need to increase donations to the Foundations.
