There continues to be awesome stories of what the doctors at the Rocky Mountain Lions Eye Institute/UC Health Eye Center are doing. Not all research is done in the laboratory. By dampening cases that are seen in the clinic seeing it is possible to learn much about the eye and be able to discover commonalities that lead to identifying causes and solutions to eye diseases. When babies are born prematurely it is possible that the eye has not received an adequate amount of oxygen. Retinopathy of Prematurity, ROP, is sight robbing if not treated. Denver is fortunate to have a community of services at the Anschutz Campus that coordinate the services of the Ophthalmologists and the Pediatricians at Children’s Hospital to treat ROP. One patient’s experience was recently captured in a UC Health article. The story of this patient has a very positive outcome as a result of the doctor at our Rocky Mountain Eye Institute.

At a recent symposium hosted by the CU Department of Ophthalmology your RMLEIF was represented by RMLEIF Trustee Sally Hooks at an event recognizing the large give to the Institute by Sue Anschultz-Rogers. “Sally was able to sneak in a few minutes with Sue to introduce herself. Sue reemphasized how important it was to her to ensure the Lions understood she wasn’t trying to overshadow all they have done for the Center” per the reports provided to me by the University. It is so very exciting to watch our Lions project attract such awesome support and recognition!

There are still needs. “Where there is a need, there is a Lion.” Our current activity of providing funds to equip five exam rooms is progressing. Mission 20/20! is set to accomplish this by the end of 2020. The plan is to raise one hundred twenty-five thousand from entities identified by you and to match those dollars with LCIF to be a total of a quarter of a million dollars. Please contact your RMLEIF Trustee if you have knowledge of an employer, Foundation, community entity or others that might be interested in being part of this marvelous project.
