Recycle for Sight / Colorado Lions Eyeglass Recycling Center is a project of Colorado Lions. The project goal is to provide eyeglasses for those in need locally and internationally. The steps are: - Collecting the eyeglasses from donation boxes throughout Colorado
- Sorting the thousands of eyeglasses in preparation for processing
- CO Lions Eyeglass Recycling Center – COLERC – washing, reading Rx, and packaging for distribution.
- Distribution to the needy at Local and international eyeglass clinics.
On February 8th, 34 volunteers—Lions from Denver, Cyber, Centennial Airport, Chatfield, Arvada, Englewood, Layette Clubs, family and friends, and volunteers from US Health— sorted through over 20,000 eyeglasses, hundreds of cases, and many lens-cleaning cloths. The sorting process has five different categories, preparing the glasses for the next step at COLERC. Glasses that are not useable are sent to a unique California recycling center that uses metal, plastic, and lenses. Cases are sent to a local metal recycling center. The lens cloths go to the international missions. Almost everything gets recycled. Please come and volunteer at the next step in the process – COLERC. You do not have to be a Lion member to volunteer. Family and friends are welcome, as well as groups. We have seen kids like to volunteer.
