Progress Report to the Colorado Lions Foundation (CLF) In January 2025, CLF approved a $14,000 grant, matched by $7,000 from COLERC and $7,000 from the MD6 Used Eyeglass Fund. The CLF Treasurer purchased four TopCon SOLOS Lite lens analyzers. The SOLOS were delivered on February 5, 2025. The first group to hold a work session after delivery was the Returned Peace Corps Volunteers of Colorado. After this group, the following Lions Clubs have held sessions: Centennial Airport, Adams Centennial, Lafayette, Nederland, Louisville, Englewood, Arvada, Highlands Ranch, Cyber and Denver. Volunteers' reaction has been universally ecstatic about the ease of use of the SOLOS. In March, COLERC purchased two more SOLOS Lites. One of the SOLOS is destined to 6NE as soon as they are ready. Another will replace an older TopCon model 200 that is being used in Pueblo. Pueblo also has a TopCon CL 300 that they plan to continue to use. The Golden Lions Club also purchased a SOLOS lite in January and they are bringing processed glasses to COLERC. COLERC will continue to assist Colorado Lions Club that are interested in processing glasses as resources permit. From July 2024 through February 2025, some 800 volunteer hours have been contributed to processing glasses at COLERC. We shipped over 11,000 pairs of glasses to 15 groups in seven countries and our local community. We also had to turn down orders from five groups going to three countries because we did not have the inventory. We always provide the contact information for any groups we must turn down to one of the other Lions Eyeglass Recycling Centers. COLERC is planning to have one of the SOLOS at the State Convention to demonstrate it to interested Lions. Since the Convention hotel/venue is very close to COLERC, we will be hosting tours of the facility. |
