Kim Yuan-Farrell is Executive Director of The Park People, a 56-year-old nonprofit whose mission is working with communities to plant trees and improve parks for a healthy, resilient future. A “Park Person” of 15 years, Kim guides the organization’s vision and activities and builds community partnerships. Kim has 20 years of nonprofit experience, a master’s degree in Environmental Management from Yale University’s School of the Environment, and a bachelor’s in anthropology and environmental studies from Santa Clara University. She sits on the City of Denver’s Urban Forestry Strategic Plan Steering Committee and on the Steering Committee of the Sustainable Urban Forests Coalition.
A Colorado kid raised on the Front Range, Kim lives with her family of four in northwest Denver, not far from where her father grew up after immigrating to Denver from Taiwan as a child. Her mom was raised in Cameroon, Africa, and it’s with a sense of global family that Kim first became concerned about environmental and community issues. Kim is passionate about the power of parks, urban forestry, and community-driven efforts to cultivate vibrant communities.
The Park People's mission is to work with communities to plant trees and improve parks for a healthy, resilient future.
COLERC volunteering is not just for Lion members. Friends and family, including kids and grandkids, can also volunteer. What better way to teach kids the joy of volunteering and helping someone far away to be able to see better? For high school students who need volunteer hours, COLERC meets the criteria.
A message from the director: Hello and Happy March! We are getting so close to camp; the sun is shining, and the snow is melting. We have continued our preparation for Summer 2025, and we are getting ready for our final Respite of the season in April! We have been busy processing applications, visiting Lions Clubs, and hosting our Respite Camps! Every year, summer seems to come faster and faster. With that, I try to slow down, find gratitude in the little things, and enjoy the springtime before the hustle of summer begins. I encourage you to slow down this spring and enjoy those small moments. I hope you all have a peaceful and beautiful spring season! Director Erin Newport.
