RECYCLE FOR SIGHT
USED EYEGLASS COLLECTION - Jeff Orne

There are over 100 eyeglass donation boxes in metro Denver. A collector is responsible for one to four boxes that must be emptied about every other month. The glasses are brought to the Lions office at the First Baptist Church. Before dropping them off, the glasses and cases are separated.

USED EYEGLASS  SORTING  - David Lambert

The eyeglasses collected from the donation boxes need to be sorted. They are divided into categories: damaged and unusable, sunglasses, and specialty glasses.  The sorting event is usually on a Tuesday from 11 to 2 at the Lion office in the Baptist Church.

COLORADO LIONS EYEGLASS RECYCLING CENTER - COLERC - Fletcher Brown

The sorted glasses are brought to COLERC. Here, they are cleaned, the prescription read, individually packaged, and then packaged for international shipment.

Volunteers are needed for all steps of the process. Processing events are scheduled at various times during the week and on weekends.

The Colorado Lions Eyeglass Recycling Center (COLERC) processes the used eyeglasses collected by Lions Clubs. Only after the glasses have been processed can they be distributed to someone in need. COLERC operates with 100 percent volunteer labor.
SIGHT COMMITEE
KIDSIGHT- Arti Kale

KidSight Colorado provides free vision screenings for children six months through six years old. Lions Club volunteers throughout Colorado conduct vision screening sessions at preschools, kindergartens, and other early childhood centers. The screeners use PlusOptix equipment, which is very user-friendly.

Since screenings are mostly done at the schools, volunteers are needed during the week. Generally, the screenings are done between 9:00 a.m. and noon. Training sessions are usually all that's required. A team of two is needed for each screening site.

One significant benefit of screening the kids is that when a kid is referred to an eye doctor, you know you made a difference in that kid's life.
