Marie Belew Wheatley

Marie recently retired from a 25-year career in nonprofit management.  She was with American Red Cross for 15 years, American Humane Association as President and CEO for six years, then Executive Director of Colorado Ballet for three years.
Marie has recently joined the board of the Denver Lyric Opera Guild, so she’s always looking for fellow opera and music fans. She also serves on the First Judicial District Nominating Commission, interviewing and nominating candidates for district judge in Jefferson and Gilpin Counties.
Marie grew up in Tennessee with seven brothers and sisters, working on a farm. “I still love gardening. I guess you never get it out of your system.” She was the first in her family to go to college, went on to get a Master’s Degree at Virginia Tech, and while she was at the Red Cross, she earned her MBA at University of Colorado.
Marie has one daughter, Kathleen, who is married to Gerry and has a two-year-old.  Both Kathleen and Gerry are Yale Ph D’s and teach at University of Chicago and Northwestern University respectively.
Since retiring, Marie plays golf twice a week as long as the weather allows. Unfortunately, it may be over until next spring. But the clubs are still in the trunk, just in case!
Welcome Marie, we look forward to serving with you.
